Woodworking trades

Wood is a noble and warm material that has been used for thousands of years for construction, furniture, decoration, and many other purposes. Woodworking trades are therefore numerous and varied, ranging from tree cutting to the manufacture of finished wooden objects.

Lumberjack

The work of wood begins with the cutting of trees. Lumberjacks are responsible for cutting trees and cutting them into logs or planks. They use saws and chainsaws to fell trees and lifting equipment to transport the trunks.

Once the trees are cut and sawn, carpenters take over. They work the wood to make furniture, doors, windows, stairs, paneling, parquet flooring, and other building elements. Carpenters use a variety of tools, such as saws, planes, drills, milling machines, and sanders, to shape the wood according to the customer's specifications.

Cabinetmaker

Cabinetmakers are specialized carpenters who make wooden furniture. They work with precious woods such as oak, walnut, rosewood, and mahogany to create high-end furniture. Cabinetmakers use traditional tools such as wood chisels and hand planes as well as modern machines such as bandsaws and wood lathes to create unique and elegant pieces.

Carpente

Carpenters are responsible for building the frameworks of buildings, roofs, and wooden stairs. They use plans and drawings to cut and assemble the various pieces of wood according to the customer's specifications. Carpenters often work on construction sites and must be able to work at heights and in difficult weather conditions.

Woodcarver

Woodcarvers are artists who use chisels, gouges, and other tools to create wooden sculptures. Woodcarvings can be of different sizes, ranging from small figurines to monumental works. Woodcarvers often work on custom orders for private clients or public organizations.

Woodturner

Woodturners are artisans specialized in creating turned wooden objects such as bowls, vases, lamp bases, and door handles. They use wood lathes to shape the wood by quickly turning pieces of wood on an axis. Woodturners can also use carving tools to create decorative patterns on their pieces.

Marquetry artist

Marquetry artists are artisans who use pieces of wood in different colors to create complex patterns and images on furniture and other wooden objects. Marquetry artists cut and glue pieces of wood to create relief or inlay designs. Marquetry is often used to add a decorative touch to furniture.
